'''Activity Modifiers''' are the customization system used on most Portal activities. After selecting an activity, the player chooses "Customize" to set difficulty and modifiers. The modifiers feed an activity score that decides the quality of rewards.

Overview

The modifier page has these categories:

  • '''Difficulty:''' sets the base Power of enemies and their health scaling.
  • '''Rule Modifiers:''' set by the game and cannot be changed.
  • '''Challenge Modifiers:''' optional settings that make enemies tougher or reduce player performance. These include Banes.
  • '''Player Stakes:''' rules that adjust rewards, such as mission timers.
  • '''Boons and Events:''' positive modifiers that help a build. Up to three can be selected.

Banes

Banes give random enemies new abilities, such as spawning mini-Screebs under sustained damage. Two banes can be picked on Advanced difficulty, and higher difficulties may allow more.

Boons

Boons are positive modifiers that help a build. The Grappler boon, for example, replaces the grenade with Grapple charges that recharge on surface contact.

Scoring

Each modifier adjusts the activity score. The baseline rank is B and can rise to A. Adding modifiers raises the score floor, so the player can reach an A and receive better drops. Modifiers do not apply to Crucible playlists.
