History of Crux of the King

Overview

Crux of the King is a Triumph in Destiny 2. It requires you to complete the King's Fall raid without any player dying, including the kill on Oryx, the Taken King. Completing this triumph awards 5 points.

How to complete

The whole team must survive every encounter, and Oryx must be defeated without a death. Key parts of the Oryx fight are:

1. Stay under the Aura of Immortality. The aura protects against the wipe attacks and bomb damage. Kill the ogres first, since they drop the blights needed to damage Oryx.
2. Handle the Torn player. One player is Torn Between Dimensions and must follow the glowing plates to the Blight Guard. Plates catch fire afterwards, so move off them.
3. Steal the Vessel's shield. After the second Blight Guard piece, the Vessel of Oryx appears. The player holding the third piece uses the Brand Claimer to steal its shield, then the team kills the Vessel quickly.
4. Detonate the bombs on "Oryx calls upon the Darkness". Stand in the blight bombs until your name shows in the lower left, then return to the aura. Assign zones so every bomb is covered.
5. Stun Oryx at the end. When he calls the darkness again, one player per side stuns him while the rest shoot. Killing the ogres drops the bombs needed, and a single bomb is enough to stun him. Failing to kill him before his final attack means restarting the fight.

Tip: stun timing decides most wipes, so practise the bomb calls before attempting a no-death run. Both guides below date from 2022 and 2023, so check for later mechanic changes.
