History of Damage Resistance

Overview

Damage resistance (DR) reduces the damage a Guardian takes from specific sources. It matters most in PvE, where endgame content is tuned around it. Most DR values are much lower in PvP.

Sources

  • Armor mods: Emergency Reinforcement gives 10% PvE DR. Elemental DR, Concussive Dampener, Melee Dampener and Sniper Resistance give 15% PvE DR each.
  • Subclass: Woven Mail (a Strand buff) gives 45% PvE DR and 25% PvP DR against bodyshots.
  • Resilience: Resilience gives PvE-only DR, and it was reworked to work this way in Season of the Haunted. Values differ by source: a 2025 guide gives up to 30% at 100 Resilience, while an older PC Gamer piece cites 40%.

Stacking

DR sources stack multiplicatively, so each extra source adds less. The formula given is 1 − (1 − X) × (1 − Y) × (1 − Z). The guide's own worked example does not match that formula, so exact totals are not settled.

Unstoppable Champions also have DR, which is why Stagger and debuffs are needed to stop them. See Champions.
