History of Defiant Engram

Overview

Defiant Engrams are the seasonal engrams of Season of Defiance, which launched with Lightfall in 2023. They replace Umbral Engrams for the season. They are stored on the War Table vendor screen rather than in your engram inventory, and the Engram Tracker shows how many you hold.

Acquisition

• Activities: Defiant Engrams drop from Defiant Battlegrounds, Gambit, Crucible and Vanguard Strikes, with the chance varying by activity.
• Chests: Opening the Defiant Battlegrounds end-of-mission chest with a Defiant Key consumes the key and gives extra engrams.
• War Table reputation: Each reputation level grants one Defiant Engram. Major rank-ups such as Brave and Heroic grant a Powerful Defiant Weapon engram.
• Upgrades: Battleground Riches adds a chance at an extra engram from Battlegrounds chests. Vestian Ward adds one if you collected Favors during the activity.

Decoding

Claiming an engram at the War Table in the H.E.L.M. decrypts it immediately. Focusing options unlock as War Table upgrades are bought:

• Defiant Engram Decoding gives random season gear.
• Defiant Weapons requires the Defiant Weapon Focusing upgrade. One engram gives a random season weapon, while four target a specific one, which must already be in your collection.
• Recovered Leviathan Weapons costs 2 engrams for a Leviathan-themed weapon or class sword.

After the season

After Season of Defiance ends, engrams from non-seasonal activities require the Legacy: Ascendant Scepter Seasonal Heirloom in your inventory, which is also available from the War Table.
