Overview

Exos are mechanical bodies that hold human minds. The Exo program was run by House Bray researchers in the Golden Age, who encoded human consciousness into machine bodies. An unnamed Exo once suggested they were war machines, though the true purpose of Exo creation is unclear.

Transfer and reboots

A human mind is moved into an Exo body, and the first reboot follows so the mind can be reborn in the new body without rejection. Each reboot causes memory loss or fragmentation. Bray scientists estimated about 20 reboots as the maximum. Dissociative Exomind Rejection was a major obstacle and killed many Nascent-Proto Exos.

Notable Exos

Clovis Bray I transferred his own consciousness into an Exo and created an AI from his final brain scan. Cayde-6 became an Exo to repay a debt to Clovis Bray. Elisabeth Bray became an Exo to save her life after her grandfather used her hidden condition to pressure her into the Exo project on Europa.
