History of Exotic Engram
Revision 26622 by archivist at 2026-10-10 09:44:36
Overview
An Exotic Engram is a loot item that decrypts into an Exotic weapon or armor piece. Focusable engrams go to your Engrams inventory, where Master Rahool can decrypt them. Auto-decrypting engrams turn into a random Exotic when they are obtained.
Acquisition
Focusable engrams drop from world activities, the Crucible Playlist, Weekly Strike and Weekly Gambit challenges (3, 6 or 9 ritual activities), Season Pass tracks, and Vendor reputation resets after the first reset. Since patch 7.1.0, Season Pass, vendor reputation and world-drop Exotic engrams are focusable instead of auto-decrypting.
Auto-decrypting engrams come from purchases at Xûr, Paraversal Hauls, Solo Legend and Master Lost Sectors (the dropped armor slot rotates daily), Nightfall strikes, and Vex Strike Force public events on Neomuna. Xûr's Treasure Hoard in Eternity also counts as a reputation-reset source.
Reputation resets come from Banshee-44, Commander Zavala, Lord Shaxx, The Drifter, Saint-14, Lord Saladin, Xûr, and the War Table, Sonar Station, Ritual Table and Spirit of Riven at the H.E.L.M. Reputation resets to zero at the start of each season.
Focusing
Rahool offers three options since patch 7.1.0:
- Standard: free random decryption into an Exotic armor piece you already own.
- Advanced: focus into any Exotic armor from one expansion for a small cost. You must already own all Exotic armor for your class from that expansion.
- Precision: focus into one specific Exotic armor piece you already own, at a higher cost.
