History of Grimoire

Overview

The Grimoire was the lore database of the original Destiny. It held lore entries sorted into six categories: Guardian, Inventory, Allies, Enemies, Places and Activities. Players unlocked individual Grimoire cards by completing activities such as story missions, Strikes and Crucible matches, finding Dead Ghosts and Calcified Fragments, or entering redeemable codes. The cards could only be read through Bungie's website and the Destiny companion app rather than in game.

Destiny 2

Destiny 2 dropped the Grimoire; the story is told in game and lore lives in a Lore tab. The card system was removed from Bungie's website and apps. Many Destiny 2 lore entries still reference Grimoire cards (for example the Ahamkara).
