History of Hard Light Catalyst

Overview

Hard Light Catalyst is a Triumph in Destiny 2 tied to the Exotic auto rifle Hard Light. Its triumph text is "Defeat enemies using Hard Light." The in-game objectives are inserting the catalyst (0/2) and defeating 700 enemies with the weapon (0/700). Completing the triumph awards no score.

How to complete

1. Get the catalyst. The catalyst is a random drop from Heroic Strikes and Nightfall Strikes. There is no guaranteed drop, so a few Nightfall runs may be needed.
2. Insert the catalyst into Hard Light to fill the first objective, which counts to 2.
3. Defeat enemies with Hard Light until the counter reaches 700. Swarm-heavy activities are the fastest way to rack up kills. Guides recommend the Altar of Sorrow for its many swarms.

Some guides from 2022 and 2026 describe the catalyst upgrade as 1,000 kills with Hard Light, a higher number than the 700 shown on the triumph.

Catalyst

The catalyst raises Hard Light's stability by 18, which makes sustained and ricochet shots easier to control. It also makes the weapon generate orbs on multikills.
