History of Hive Wizards

Overview

Hive Wizards are shielded Hive casters in the Witches' Ritual public event. Two Wizards start under immunity shields, guarded by Knights. Standing on a Wizard's plate long enough strips its shield. Killing both Wizards opens the Ascendant Portal, which begins spawning Thralls and other enemies.

Heroic trigger

After the Wizards die, two Hive Crystals appear above the portal. Destroying both starts the heroic version of the event. In the heroic version, the shields are lowered by standing on the lit hex circles on the far side of the portal.

Heroic boss

Sources differ on the heroic boss. The D2 Wiki lists the Darkblade Knight, a giant Knight with an axe, while Destinypedia lists a giant Ultra enemy that exits the portal with reinforcements. Killing the boss completes the heroic event.
