History of Reload Speed

Reload Speed is a weapon stat that controls how quickly a weapon reloads. Higher values shorten the reload animation, but the actual duration also depends on the weapon's archetype, since each archetype has its own base speed.

Ammo is restored partway through the reload animation, so players can often resume firing before it finishes. Sprinting or swapping weapons cancels the rest of the animation.

Sources of Reload Speed

Reload Speed can be raised by a Masterwork, magazine mods such as Flared Magwell, Loader armor mods, and reload perks such as Outlaw, Feeding Frenzy and Rapid Hit. Some reload perks multiply the stat, so with the right combination it can rise above 100. Some buffs also add a separate reload duration scalar that works independently of the stat.

Edge of Fate

With The Edge of Fate, the stat system was reworked. Reload speed now sits in the 1 to 100 range of the Weapons stat, while values above 100 affect other things. Check Bungie's patch notes for exact numbers.
