History of Symmetrists

Overview

The Symmetrists were a Guardian faction built on the teachings of the Warlock Ulan-Tan. He taught that Light and Darkness are cosmic counterweights that balance each other, and that Guardians should embrace the Darkness as well as their Light. Because the Traveler sacrificed itself to hold back the Darkness, he argued that Guardians owed it healing in return. The Vanguard regarded him as a troublemaker whose ideas caused too much fear, and the Symmetrists were long seen as a fringe group.

Legacy

When the Concordat was ejected from the Tower, the Consensus briefly considered elevating the Symmetry but chose the Future War Cult instead, judging its teachings too dangerous. During the War against the Witness, the Vanguard adopted parts of the Symmetry's philosophy, which helped Guardians understand Prismatic.
