Wu Ming is one of the names the Drifter used during the Dark Age, when he kept his Light secret under a false identity. The name can be read as "Nameless" in Mandarin.
During that time he ran a bar in the shadow of Felwinter Peak, under the protection of the Iron Lords. After a gunfight there, in which Lady Efrideet fired on Warlords, he was paid for the repairs. He later climbed Felwinter Peak to speak to Lord Felwinter, an Iron Lords leader, and accused Lord Dryden of misconduct.
In the Loose Ends entries he confronts Lord Felwinter over the fate of the town of Eaton. Lord Dryden had used the starving townsfolk as bait for an ambush on a Warlord, breaking the Iron Lords' code against involving Lightless people in their conflicts. The ambush went wrong, Eaton was destroyed, and Dryden had inflicted final deaths on the Warlords he defeated and kept it hidden. Felwinter refuses to act on the Iron Decree and ends the meeting, and Wu Ming tells his Ghost to call Dryden and prepare his Iron Banner arsenal.
