Overview
'''Xenology''' is a repeatable weekly Quest offered by Xûr, Agent of the Nine, that rewards one Exotic Cipher. It was introduced in Season of the Hunt (Season 12). Xûr offers it each weekend and it must be handed in before he leaves on Tuesday's reset. It takes a few hours of normal play.
Walkthrough
- Pick up Xenology from Xûr when he is in his weekly location. Complete Ops activities with a performance grade of B or higher until progress reaches 2500. Extra progress comes from better grades, longer average activity length, and playing with Clan mates.
- Return and speak to Xûr to claim the Exotic Cipher.
Tips:
- Exotic missions such as The Whisper and Zero Hour are reported to be the fastest way to fill the bar.
- You can hold at most 5 Exotic Ciphers. At the cap you cannot turn the quest in, so spend ciphers first.
- Spend ciphers at Xûr, the Exotic Archive in the Tower, or with Master Rahool to reroll Exotic armor.
'''Older version:''' When introduced, the quest asked for 21 progress points from Vanguard strikes, Crucible wins and Gambit wins, with Legend Exotic missions worth 7, Exotic missions 4, and most other activities 1 (Destiny Game Wiki, Dexerto). The in-game text now says 2500 progress from Ops activities, so treat the point values above as outdated.

Trivia
- Dexerto notes that from Season 21 players can stack up to five Exotic Ciphers; earlier they had to be spent weekly.
