History of Athenaeum World

Overview

Athenaeum Worlds were massive planetary repositories of knowledge and technology belonging to the Cabal Empire. Much of their technology came from species the Cabal assimilated or conquered, and Destinypedia describes it as including 'sentient anomalies', 'thought-powered reality smashers' and 'portable world-enders'.

Calus had the Crown of Sorrow, found on a Hive War Moon, converted into an Athenaeum World to serve as a Hive repository.

Athenaeum World X

Athenaeum World X is the only Athenaeum World Destinypedia lists by name. It is cited to the Chronicon entry MCXVII from the Season of Opulence, which Bungie dated June 4, 2019.

Status

After the Cabal lost Torobatl and most of their empire to Xivu Arath's Hive and Wrathborn forces, it is unknown whether the Cabal still control any Athenaeum Worlds. The Loyalist caretakers Calus stationed on each have been silent for a prolonged period.
