History of Forerunner Catalyst

Overview

Forerunner Catalyst is a Triumph in Destiny 2 that unlocks the upgrade for the Forerunner exotic. The catalyst upgrade is earned by getting 700 kills with the weapon, in PvE or PvP. The catalyst itself comes from the Magnum Opus II quest line, which runs through Xur and Dares of Eternity. Its perk is The Rock.

How to complete

1. Get the Forerunner exotic. Start the Magnum Opus line with Xur after a Dares of Eternity run. Collect Strange Coins, finish Starhorse bounties, and turn in the Forerunner frame to Banshee-44 in The Tower.
2. Reach the catalyst. Sources differ on the rank needed. One guide says rank 4 with Xur to start the quest; the wiki ties the catalyst to rank 16 with Xur, where you claim the Anomalous Access Card.
3. Get 700 kills with Forerunner. Equip the weapon and defeat enemies with it. PvE and PvP kills both count.

Tips

• The weapon's tracker shows targets defeated with it, so you can check progress without leaving the activity.
• Fast, high-volume kills are the efficient route. Use your Super often, since it recharges quickly in Dares of Eternity.
• Explosive Shanks count as elites during the Fallen mine encounter in Dares, which speeds up kill counts there.

Perk

The catalyst gives Forerunner The Rock: for a few seconds after a final blow, spend part of your ammo reserves to turn your next thrown grenade into a fragmentation grenade.
