History of Lair Key

Overview

A Lair Key is a one-time-use consumable from Riven's Lair, a Season of the Wish activity. It is not used manually. A key held when a Lair chest is opened is spent automatically to upgrade that chest, which usually contains an extra weapon or armour piece.

Acquisition

Keys come from the Riven's Lair activity, Spirit of Riven rank rewards at the H.E.L.M., Season Pass rewards, seasonal quests, and the Ritual playlist.

Limits

Up to five keys can reportedly be held at a time, shared across all characters. Reports differ on which chest the key upgrades: the end reward chest of Riven's Lair, or the high-tier chest in The Coil.
