Nightmare of Crota

Overview

A Nightmare of Crota on The Moon. It drops the Essence of Despair, which Eris Morn believes is a key to the Pyramid; it rewards the Dreambane class item (see Dreambane) in Legacy: Shadowkeep.

Crota's Nightmare is the Aspect of Despair, recreated by the Lunar Pyramid with Darkness.

Encounters

Crota appears in A Mysterious Disturbance, Beyond and Nightmare Hunt: Despair, and later in The Visitation during The Final Shape. In A Mysterious Disturbance the Guardian downs him, but he regenerates and calls in other Nightmares, and Eris teleports the Guardian away. He is defeated again in Beyond. In Nightmare Hunts, Guardians use Crota's blades to weaken him, then banish him.

Despair Essence

Despair Essence is cleansed by completing Moon activities such as chests, resource collection, public events, Lost Sectors and patrols. It unlocks the Dreambane mark, cloak or bond, which are class items. See Nightmare Essence.
