Placement Series

The Placement Series is the run of placement matches in Competitive Crucible that a player plays before receiving a starting Division. Before getting a rank, players must complete seven matches in the Competitive Crucible playlist; matches from other playlists do not count. Performance in these matches sets the player's starting point.

The series is started through the Dividing the Ladder quest, which is obtained by speaking to Lord Shaxx at the Tower. The competitive playlist is a ranked 3v3 mode that includes Survival, Rift and Showdown. Players move through seven Divisions, each with three subdivisions.

Moving to a new Division requires a promotion series, which is won by taking two of three games. Players facing a derank must win two of three relegation games to stay in their Division. These rules are from the 2022 preview of the system.
