History of Portalguards

Portalguards are shielded Hive enemies that guard the portals in PsiOps Battlegrounds: EDZ. Each Portalguard is protected by an immunity shield that stops it from being attacked until the shield is removed.

Overview

Portalguards first appeared in Season of the Risen. Killing a Portalguard opens its rift so the fireteam can advance, and this process repeats three times through the activity.

Breaking the shield

The shield is removed with a weapon dropped by a Lucent Reliquist. Players fight off incoming Hive enemies until a Reliquist arrives, then kill it and take its weapon, which Destinypedia calls a Cleaver. Once the shield is down, the Portalguard can be killed with normal weapons.
