History of Primary ammo

Overview
Primary ammo is one of Destiny 2’s three ammo types, alongside Special ammo and Heavy ammo. It is shown by a white icon and has unlimited reserves, so weapons that use it do not need ammo pickups. Bungie introduced infinite reserves for all Primary ammo weapons with Season of the Lost in August 2021. Primary ammo weapons usually handle rank-and-file enemies; ammo type is separate from weapon slot, so Primary and Special weapons can both occupy the first or second weapon slot. Bungie’s weapon guide lists these Primary weapon types: Hand Cannon, Auto Rifle, Scout Rifle, Pulse Rifle, Sidearm, Submachine Gun and Combat Bow. Some Exotic weapons use non-standard ammo, so check a weapon’s in-game ammo icon when uncertain.
