History of Range

Range is a weapon stat measuring how far shots travel before damage falloff begins. It also affects aim assist distance: higher Range extends the effective reach of Aim assist.

Details

  • Range applies to most weapons; Rocket Launchers and Grenade Launchers use Velocity instead.
  • When aiming down sights, a weapon's range is multiplied by its zoom to give its effective range. The stat itself only accurately represents falloff when hip-firing.
  • Each weapon archetype has a Range cap beyond which more Range no longer changes falloff.
  • Range can be raised by masterworks, long-range barrels such as Hammer-Forged Rifling, Smallbore and Full Bore, and perks like Rangefinder.

A second source (High Ground Gaming) describes Range simply as the peak distance before falloff and notes it helps aim assist; it also says the stat controls how long it takes to "charge" a weapon, which does not match the Destiny 2 Wiki and appears to be a mistake.
