Reversal of Fortune (perk)

Overview

Reversal of Fortune is an exotic trait exclusive to Revoker, a Sniper Rifle introduced in Season 7. After two consecutive missed shots, a bullet automatically returns to the magazine after a brief delay. The perk encourages aggressive mid-range sniping by forgiving shots that narrowly miss their target.

How It Works

The perk tracks missed shots in sequence. After missing twice in a row, the weapon restores one round to the magazine from a reserve pool after approximately one second. This countdown resets if you land a precision or non-precision hit, so consecutive hits prevent the refund from activating.

Use

Reversal of Fortune excels in PvP activities where sustained aggression matters more than single-shot precision. It pairs well with aggressive playstyles that emphasize positioning and follow-up shots over waiting for perfect aim. In Crucible and Trials of Osiris, the perk's ammo refund prevents players from being starved for special ammunition during extended engagements. In PvE, Strikes and lower-difficulty content, the refund is less critical since ammo is more abundant, but it remains useful in Nightfalls and harder encounters where special ammo scarcity can matter.

Compared to other sniper perks like One-Two Punch or Kill Clip, Reversal of Fortune focuses on sustain rather than damage amplification, making it suited to players who prioritize consistency over raw output.

Acquisition

Reversal of Fortune is obtained exclusively by acquiring Revoker. The weapon is an exotic that can be obtained from:

• The Exotic Kiosk in the Tower (requires Exotic Ciphers, legendary shards, and glimmer)
• The Monument to Lost Light (legacy exotic source, if Revoker has been sunset or vaulted)
• Random exotic drops from Nightfalls and other endgame activities (when Revoker is in the exotic drop pool)

History

Reversal of Fortune debuted alongside Revoker in Season 7 (Season of Opulence, June 2019). The perk's two-miss requirement and automatic refund made Revoker a staple in PvP immediately. The weapon remained prominent through numerous seasons due to the perk's reliability, though it saw some usage shifts as the sniper rifle sandbox evolved.
