History of Runes

Overview

Runes are the currency of Court of Blades, the timed boss-rush activity added in Episode: Heresy Act II. Runes are earned by completing rounds, and the amount depends on how a Guardian performs in each one. Rune totals also add to the run's overall score, which sets the Challengers Defeated rank.

Types

There are three kinds of Rune, each with a different reach:

• Reciprocal Runes buy Tier I upgrades at the Hall of Souls.
• Stolen Runes buy Tier I or Tier II upgrades.
• Antiquated Runes buy upgrades from any tier, including Tier III.

Spending

Runes are spent in the Prepare phase between rounds. Buying an Armament uses up a Rune whatever its tier, and a Tier III Antiquated Rune lets a player buy any available Armament. Some upgrades can only be bought once per fireteam, and some require a specific Rune to be active or a path chosen at the Shaping Slab.
