Taken Essence

Taken Essence is a mechanic where a Taken enemy, typically a Captain, drops an essence that the player carries. It behaves like the Last Wish Penumbra and Antumbra essences, replaces your weapon with a Taken projectile, and has a 45-second HUD countdown. In the Astral Alignment activity (Season of the Lost) it is deposited by walking into a Taken Rift, which collapses the rift, and used on the boss to break the Ogre's shield. It also appears as a relic type in the Vow of the Disciple raid.
