== Summary ==

A first-person reflection from a speaker who was once a gardener. They remember creating a self-pollinating tree bearing fifty-eight varieties of fruit that thrived in harsh conditions, though they never finished their planned genetic improvements before their civilization "unmade themselves." They doubt the pursuit of perfection and "final shape": despite godlike power, their civilization keeps producing failures while insisting all it makes is perfect. They end with regret: "I think... I would've liked just watching my tree grow." It ties into the Witness and the themes of perfection and creation.
