Eye of Xivu Arath

The Eyes of Xivu Arath are Elite Taken Captains in the horde of Xivu Arath. They first appeared in the Astral Alignment activity of Season of the Lost and returned in Season of the Deep, where they are tough enemies that try to stop Guardians. They use a Taken Shrapnel Launcher and have an absorption shield, rapid movement and short-range teleportation.

Like the Eye of Riven from the Last Wish raid, each one leaves behind Taken Essence when defeated, and the essence is needed to complete the encounter.

Astral Alignment

In the Collapse the Taken Rifts section at Ley Line on Pallas, Taken forces attack from all sides. After the initial fodder is cleared, an Eye spawns. Defeating it leaves a Taken Essence on its corpse, which the fireteam picks up. While carrying the essence, the weapon becomes a Taken projectile, and walking up to a Taken Rift purges it automatically. The fireteam repeats this for each remaining plate, and several Captains spawn during this section.

The same Captain type appears in the final boss fight against Kholks, Taken of Xivu Arath. Breaking one of the Blights spawns a Captain, and the Taken Essence it drops is used to break the Ogre's shield.
