Overview

The The Messenger is a Legendary Pulse Rifle that deals Kinetic damage. Its weapon description reads: "The bearer of bad news."

Acquisition

The weapon can be acquired from Trials of Osiris. An Adept version, which can equip Adept mods, receives extra stats from masterworking and has a slightly different appearance. This variant is obtained from the Flawless chest when reaching the Lighthouse after a Flawless victory, defined as seven consecutive games won.

This item cannot be reacquired from Collections.

The weapon was originally introduced in Destiny and reissued in Destiny 2 during Season of the Chosen. It was reissued again in The Witch Queen expansion, adding Origin Traits. It also appears in Season of the Deep.

In Destiny, the weapon featured specific perk columns. Column 1 options included Sureshot IS, Red Dot-OAS, and Ranged Lens RLS3. Column 2 featured Third Eye. Column 3 included Extended Mag, Flared Magwell, and Perfect Balance. Column 4 contained Headseeker.

Lore associated with the weapon involves Aunor and Ikora Reyes. Aunor transmatted into Ikora's personal library in the Tower to discuss a tainted Guardian named Trestin. Trestin was accused of disobeying orders, trading Vanguard secrets, and torturing her fireteam to learn how Eramis accessed the Darkness. Ikora assigned Aunor to pursue Trestin on Europa, framing the mission as an opportunity for redemption rather than punishment. Aunor expressed skepticism about Trestin's willingness to cooperate, noting that previous attempts had failed.
