History of Vidmaster

Overview

Vidmaster is the seal and title for the 30th Anniversary Pack, Bungie's anniversary add-on. It is earned by completing all ten 30th Anniversary triumphs, which cover Dares of Eternity, the Grasp of Avarice dungeon, Xûr's Treasure Room and the anniversary Exotics Gjallarhorn and Forerunner. Completing the seal grants the Vidmaster title plus Exotic ornaments and emotes (the "Thy Fearful Symmetry" helmet ornaments for all three classes are named in one guide).

Required triumphs

  1. Let's See What You'll Be Taking Home - spend Treasure Keys (20 per one guide) in Xûr's Treasure Room on Eternity; this fills naturally while playing Dares.
  2. Fateful Spin - face every Wheel of Adversity challenge in Dares of Eternity on the top difficulty (mines, crystals, Minotaurs, commanders and Blight across Fallen, Hive, Vex, Cabal and Taken rounds).
  3. Repeat Winner - defeat final bosses in Dares of Eternity (20 across any difficulty per one guide).
  4. Special Guest Scar - defeat Xûr's Chosen during three different Lightning Rounds (per TheGamer), a random bonus event that sometimes spawns after a run; it is slightly likelier on the harder difficulty.
  5. Old Friends, Old Couch - complete Dares of Eternity on the top difficulty with a fireteam of 2 to 4 Guardians. The Starhorse's Favor buff gives infinite Heavy ammo for the final boss.
  6. Daring Displays - complete Starhorse bounties (15 per one guide). Weekly and top-difficulty bounties give extra progress, so weeklies are the fastest route.
  7. Paraversal Prize - earn the Exotic Sidearm Forerunner via Xûr's quest.
  8. Grasp of Avarice Complete - clear the Grasp of Avarice dungeon (needs the pack).
  9. And Out Fly the Wolves - earn the Exotic Rocket Launcher Gjallarhorn via Xûr's quest.
  10. The Richest Dead Man Alive - recover all 12 messages from Wilhelm-7 hidden in Grasp of Avarice.

Tips

  • Only the top-difficulty Dares triumphs (Fateful Spin, Old Friends, Old Couch) are described as a bit difficult, but "not too bad" (Shacknews).
  • Do the Grasp of Avarice clear and the Wilhelm-7 message hunt in the same sweep.
  • Estimated time: a few evenings, mostly farming Dares runs and bounties; this is my estimate, not from a source.

Availability

Introduced with the 30th Anniversary Pack (December 2021). Sources I read do not report the seal being retired, but the pack must be owned. Note a naming disagreement: the 2021 guides call the hard Dares difficulty "Legend", while the in-game triumph text on this wiki says "Expert" (the difficulty was later renamed); they are the same tier. TheGamer says the title stays obtainable as long as the 30th Anniversary Pack is available; no gilding information was found in any source.
