Obdurate Phalanx

Overview

The Obdurate Phalanx is a Taken enemy, a variant of the Taken Phalanx, that first appeared in Season of the Wish. It appears in the Starcrossed exotic mission, where Phalanxes roam the Black Garden arena and block the way to Akardon, Pitiless Mind.

Defeating it

Each Phalanx projects a symbol. To damage one, grab the "Sire's Obligation" buff (about 45 seconds) from the blue paracausal sparks. The buff also reveals the symbols. Kill the Phalanxes in the order of their symbols shown on the energy gate. Killing them spawns Vex reinforcements.

Before Akardon, two Phalanxes sit in damaging areas. Use the blue and orange sparks to gain the "Crowned by Dragons" buff, which lasts about 44 seconds and is needed to enter and damage them. In the Akardon final fight, two Phalanxes power the boss's rotating Hydra shields, and killing both removes the shields.
