History of Unknown Space

Unknown Space, also called the Nine Realms, is a celestial dimension and the domain of The Nine: a near-featureless expanse of white sand under a blue sky, dotted with monolithic geometric structures of white stone or golden metal, often hung with flowing ribbons and kinetic sculptures. Destinypedia quotes the in-game feel: "You have no idea where it is, but somehow you know exactly how to get there."
Access
Through a floating vortex or wormhole in space, or by approaching The Haul (towed by the Drifter's ship, The Derelict, introduced in Destiny 2: Forsaken; Wikipedia notes the Derelict "leads into the realm of the Nine in unknown space"). It is a launch point for activities rather than a patrol destination.
Sub-areas
The Haul and its parts (Heaven/Hell, Hexahedron, Singularity), Xûr's Dominion (home of Xûr's Treasure Hoard) and the Third Spire outpost. Wikipedia's Destiny 2 article also describes a Spire social space reached through Trials of the Nine where players meet the Emissary.
Activities
Trials of the Nine and The Reckoning (both former), Prophecy, Dares of Eternity, Rite of the Nine, and Xûr's Treasure Hoard, plus Crucible maps Equinox and Eternity. Sources list the older activities as former; which are currently playable may be out of date.
The Emissary
The Nine's Emissary Orin is closely affiliated with both the Nine and Mara Sov. It appeared during Season of Arrivals. Orin is also the giver of the Haul to the Drifter (see The Derelict).
History
First visited through Gambit's Haul in Destiny 2: Forsaken (September 2018); the Nine's presence recurs through later seasons.
